The keys that I am typing, using, taping, stroking… either way the keys are not ink pens, yet the way the words in this font appear on my tablet are literally giving me life. The aesthetics, the sensation, the flow of all that can make up a fulfilling writing session. It brings a rush that is lowkey indescribable, an “IYKYK” sorta vibe, as the moderns would say. Writing has always evoked the goodness within my feels, but for obvious reasons I use the word ‘always’ quite loosely…when was the last time I fuckin’ wrote anything?! Well, in public? From time to time I journal but not mos def enough, I dabbled in fiction writing, still not enough. I even started on some erotica in one of my many notebooks; not nearly enough real life excitement for that, sorry pervies. But it all feels energizing nonetheless, I can only thank the universe and my ancestors for magnetizing a burst of creative juices within my mind and spirit. Time comes along and passes by, rather we are in some form of waiting or not, time will just keep on timing as it marches through your life. It changes paths and outlooks, so I’m geeked out and grateful in this moment, even in these days.

Clearly it has been years since I have posted anything on my website, and now that we’re in ’25 my last post date made me a little queasy when I read it. So much shit has happened since then *nervous laugh* and a lot of it has impacted our lives for good, while having to adapt to emanate uncertainty aka more of us are straight up living in survival mode on the daily…whatever that means for you or myself, it became even more real in the past 5 years. But I digress! You wanna see some pictures and I want to show em to ya, real bad 🙂 the shots in this post are from a few of my all time favorite shoots and they hold crazy good memories in the heart, not just the memory cards. On some occasions timing has a way of being in your favorite and presents the perfect chance to grab life by its horns of focus. Last year, I began feeling the urge to get my thoughts and experiences out onto paper/screen. And I hadn’t felt such an urge since taking a magazine writing class a few years back. It went beyond the desire to enter a new journal passage or research/review the latest social strain on the world around me, which could sometimes pledged my mind. I wanted to extensively answer the writer within myself , twisting my own reality in with dystopian fiction and societal “what the fucks”.

So I began to do what I like to call creative scrying and started on a story that will likely be published one of these upcoming days, even if only for the sake of doing being weirdly artistic. When I was a younger girl I wanted to be a singer. *sensing your hard eye roll* But I also loved reading music magazines and writing in school; that’s fulfilled me more than watching TRL and eating potato chips. All of those interest are still with me, unshaken by the pursuit of studying a handful of other subjects: radio broadcasting and psychology being a couple of them. The latter is still something I fuck with 😈 because it’s just so goddamn open.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a blog entry, now that we’re here and talking etcetera… But this is truly a special kind of post. One with a link to something mega cool that I put my whole self into, it even has pictures! I’m happy as hell that I was given the chance to cover another highly anticipated concert, this time at home in L.A. Check out my full review of Failure and Swervedriver’s last night of their Spring tour, freshly published by the ever awesome Cryptic Rock. It was a true blast of an experience for a die hard music fan like myself.

That Friday Night with She Wants Revenge

The city of San Diego has pulled at my heartstrings for just about a few years now, and I greatly love that place and all of its glorious non L.A. energy. Two weeks ago I had the chance to bask in the joy of doing a few new things on a solo trip, including the first time I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing Darkwave band She Wants Revenge live on stage. The Music Box in San Diego seemed to truly fit the band’s well known deliverance of fluent energy, dark yet always plentiful with warmth and the fuzziest of emotions. Adam Bravin opened for “himself” to start the night with his solo project Love, Ecstasy and Terror; making the entire show even more special.

Here I proudly post the results of my first official photo pass with a few shots of She Wants Revenge, flaunting their stuff at one of the coolest venues I’ve ever discovered.

Get Down On A Saturday Night: Jason Taylor’s Birthday and EP release Party

Here we are closing in on another month in 2018, another gloomy day in Los Angeles as “true” Spring days have spoiled us all, some of us are craving a bit more sunshine for a needed true energy boost. April has been a month enriched with musical events, the experiences that come along with each of the artist/bands show, a variety of new album releases with announcements , and tons of new music discovery to start the month of May in good spirits.

The Study on Hollywood Boulevard has a charm about it that feels quaint and welcoming from what can and does lurk right outside its doors, so I am always up for a reason to visit and soak up the atmosphere. Last Saturday night was nothing short of refreshing as there was so much to be excited for: a debut album release and live performance while celebrating the big 30 with the club’s entire crowd.

Jason Ryan Taylor’s brand new EP ‘Creation Creator’ was written entirely by himself and presents a seven track audible burst of warm revitalizing tones that should be placed on repeat and adsorbed to the fullest of listening potential, Spotify and those compact disk that some of us older people still play are both more than acceptable. The show marked the first time I’ve seen Jason live and was certainly a bonus treat for my photographer/videographer side; his energy was captured by the camera undoubtedly sparked up some ever-chill Jack White flare. I think it’s safe to say that I am now a super-fan as well as creation- influenced, and that is always cause for a double dose of happy.

Wednesday Night at the Lucky Strike

I found myself in Hollywood, California on yet another cold night in February for a few reasons: to spend some quality and long awaited time with family, cure up an itch to shoot with my camera, and check out a brand new band that’s playing at a happening bowling alley. Today, I found that I am actually applying tons of new inspiration towards my art and it is welcomed with open arms of gratitude! A part of that expression is being in a head space that allows creation to flow through, vs running a marathon along side other thoughts that tangle up and take no pause as life marches on.

As most fellow photographers do while being challenged with lighting, I took one too many unsatisfying shots that night in February, although there were tons to go through after the night was done. Anticipating the band Radioblack is the reason I was there at Lucky Strike, and becoming familiar with my camera’s video capabilities was a pretty unexpected perk that has brought on even more excitement for the year.

Nothing More at The Regent, DTLA

This show marks the beginning of milestone I’ve always imagined to be as a gigantic fan of music: several of my favorited artist and bands not only release new music,some after many years of anticipation., but these ear goodies are going to be available for listening within weeks of one another on top of a pretty little handful of headlining tours. All happening in the year 2018, the present, at last. It pleases me greatly to acknowledge this and take it in with daily random smiles, along with having a bit more finances in order to experience most concerts which makes me grateful as well. The inspiration and energy that stems directly from the musician as they play the stage has begun to strike cords with my own artistic expression, as I feel newly eager to create& see that this year holds much excitement.

Like many bands I’ve come to discover, embrace, and sometimes even fall for, Nothing More is one of the bands that I watched via YouTube in attempt to get a taste of what to expect until they came touring around my parts…that taste was a tiny drop in comparison to live witness while in the pit. These guys play beyond the average rock show, while going rather hard on a intimate scale at Downtown Los Angeles’ Regent theater. Any frequent attendee of concerts and or fan of legit rock with impressive display of instrumental influence will more than appreciate what the quartet brings live on stage.

Nothing More are quite the busy bees this year, extending their tour for the Grammy nominated album The Stories We Tell Ourselves, joining Breaking Benjamin (I’m already there!) on tour this Summer and also opening for the one and only Guns and Roses on July 1st in Barcelona.

The Mendenhall Experiment EP Review

I’ve been waking up in Los Angeles for nearly an entire 30 years, sometimes by the warmth of the day’s hot sun, like this Saturday morning. Growing up with CD’s and cassettes, 90’s kids received their fix of the latest music on Tuesdays, unable to resist the favorite tracks on repeat and for x amount of time. Fridays are now when most of us look forward to for such gratification, but this particular new music release brought something quite ear catching to the metal scene. To my ears played a small gem that uniquely shines and was surely much anticipated.

The Mendenhall Experiment’s self-titled EP found itself on repeat in my tiny Bluetooth speaker, pouring out an ambiance that sounds natural within their hard rock deliverance. As I’ve seen the band live only once, it clicked in my mind that they undoubtedly poses the scarily forgotten potential that lies within a triple threat: performance, fluent skill set in musicianship, and lyrical content that can grab the audience. The noticeably auditable desire to express what it means to share a bleeding passion for music with the listener never hurt, either.

From the emotive flow of relatable lyrics to the technical sharpness from the entire band, the 6 track EP will stick with the frequent listener of the rock genre and leave them excited to hear much more. Two special guest appearances are also on the EP, (go get it and find out who they are!) adding a tasty bit of “Fuck Yeah” factor to its well-done mix and production. The Mendenhall Experiment is one band who indeed strike a hunch in the musical side of intuition when it comes to going the distance in their work.

Deftones and Hollywood ‘Gore’

I have so much listening space for the band that has rocked for the past 2 decades, very recently released their 8th studio album, and came to little ol’ Hollywood last month for a Jimmy Kimmel outdoor performance.

Deftones held my full attention and excitement on that breezy Spring afternoon and for the very first time, I got to watch them play live.

11/12/2015- Opening night for Norman Reedus’ photography exhibit @ Voila studios in L.A.

Dawning on the opening night of a very anticipated fine art photography exhibit from Norman Reedus, I felt the jolt of excitement while also prepping for a tiny let down… readying myself for the obvious possibility that the Los Angeles gallery Voila! studio may just reach its capacity for such an event. With a display of work from the photo book The Sun’s Coming Up…Like A Big Bald Head, Reedus also teamed up with mixed media artist Jake Lamagno as he presented his own exhibition of uniquely crafted sculptures. The new and deeply magnetic showing will run until New Year’s Eve 2015; giving those of us who missed the debut plenty of time to catch an eye full and a chance to snag a piece of Norman himself.

Wine Over Matter

Checking your Facebook feed was never so exciting!!

After getting word that Maynard James Keenan was coming to town with his very own and well renowned Caduceus wine, nothing but the shakes and my first wine tasting reservation followed. A few little birdies have expressed some surprise at the fact that guest were allowed to take photos for such an event, but a gorgeous Sunday afternoon like this brought on its fair share of feeling lucky.
